Greek Braised Octopus with Short Pasta

Last weekend, I had my first Balkan food experience in the kitchen… Together with five other talented homecooks, we prepared a meal for 30 hungry expats and friends from the Legal Aliens. We pulled out a gargantuan menu that left no one hungry for at least the next week. Great food and great fun!

I must say, that until last week, my experience with Balkan food resumed to close to nothing [a trip to Greece some years ago and my weekly drool Marta’s blog]. So many countries involved, so many traditions and tastes. It was quite a challenge! My kind of challenge.

Berbere vegetable tajine in the making

It’s still freezing cold outside. All white and pretty from behind the windows.
I am glad to be in the warmth of my kitchen, bathing in the invigorating warmth and colors of the Moroccan cuisine of my childhood.

I have been making some research and testing some new and old favorites of my Moroccan repertoire during the last week while putting together the winter Moroccan food menu for my guest cooking appearance at Quirky coming Friday.

Pintade 'au pot'

La poule au pot… One of the ultimate feel-good/comfort/healing foods in French households. A [huge] pot, a chicken [a hen originally], veggies and more veggies, water and not much more. [yes, chicken soup if you insist]

As a ‘true Francaise’ 😉 , I believe it to be a remedy against the cold, the flu, the broken hearts, the end of the year indigestions, etc.

No, no, no, I haven’t deserted the kitchen due to a lack of dairy… I’m still here! Cooking more than ever and  back on dairy (Yes!) just like Petit Tom (Yes! Yes! Yes!).

I’ve got exciting news (old news though for my FB followers): I have started my own company this summer and it’s a complete carreer change…

Eating and cooking ‘without’

I’ve bragged enough about it: it seems that my stomach is lined with concrete.
Ok, i’d still have to get through the snack streets in Beijing and try those scorpios and other silk worms [photo courtesy of my dutchie] before i can tell for sure…

You get the picture: when it comes to food, it seems that if i dare eat it, I can take it!

I have always been overly proud about that, a bit condescending to the delicate stomachs among my friends even.
I didn’t grasp how lucky I was until short…
